More at Markenfield

Richard P, Barry, Graham and Catriona had a pleasant day, a bit chilly and were saved from the brief shower by Catriona's blue tarpaulin. Another section finished!

Thanks to Barry and Graham for the photos, and Graham for the words.

The move of the big stone at Markenfield

The team today was Barry, Catriona, Graham, Paul, Richard H, Richard P and Tony.

A priority for today was to attempt to move this large stone into the wall. Due to its peculiar shape it was decided to split it into two pieces.

The final manoeuvre is completed

Barry and Graham work on the wall looking north

and Catriona and Richard P on the wall looking south

Richard H checks that the wall is level before placing the toppers

Can you spot where that big stone went to ??

Before leaving Richard H and Tony check out the "stone mountain" next to the barn for future supplies

Beginners from Barnsley

We had two new recruits this week who had contacted us at the start of the year to see if they could come walling with us.

The Met Office had promised that the day would be rather fine after an initial morning flurry but the snow kept falling for a good while into the morning. Of the regular wallers only Graham and I had managed to make the journey, others from more lofty environs had had rather more snow to contend with.

Terri and Clive, our new comers, arrived at around 10 o'clock having come through snow drifts and downpours all the way from Barnsley! I hadn't quite appreciated they were coming quite so far, but it's a valiant effort on their part.

The snow stopped falling at about 10.15 and we jumped out of out vehicles and hot footed it to the wall for a very bright, sunny and cold day of walling

Terri and Clive took down a section of wall for the morning session, and in the afternoon they got warm again, after a chilly lunch, by rebuilding a decent stretch up to mid height.

Apparently we haven't put either of them off walling in the future, so hopefully they'll continue to have a go. Perhaps a bit nearer to Barnsley next time, although they'd be welcome to wall with us again if they fancied it.

Here are the photos.

The rebuilding work at the end of the day.

Thanks to both Clive and Terri for braving the weather and for building a good solid section of wall.
